The Life of Curt Flood

Picture
Curt Flood was born in Houston, Texas on January 18, 1938. Baseball was always one of his favorite things to do as a child. He was so good that he ended up coming straight out of highschool to the MLB. His MLB Debut was September 9, 1956, for the Cincinnati Redlegs. Entering the MLB, he stood at 5 foot 9 inches tall. Even though he lacked height, he did not lack heart. He has set numerous records in the MLB and has changed sport franchises forever. Curt Flood believed that no player in the MLB should be owned by their team. With this belief, he came up with the idea of the Free Agency. He ended up going to court against the reserve clause in the case: Flood v. Kuhn. He eventually lost the case, but he paved the road for the free agency to become a reality.
